Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, has disclosed his long-standing friendship with Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli ahead of the Australian Open 2024. The tennis legend, known for his remarkable fitness and determination at the age of 36, expressed his admiration for Kohli, stating that they have known each other for several years.

Although Djokovic has not had the chance to meet the Indian batter in person, the two sports icons have maintained constant communication. Djokovic revealed the camaraderie in an interview with Sony Sports, where he praised Kohli for his stellar cricket career and expressed gratitude for the positive remarks he received.

Here's what he said:

"Virat Kohli and I have been texting a little bit for a few years, and we never got the chance to meet in person. But it was really a privilege and honour to listen to him speak nicely about me, and I obviously admire his career and achievements and everything he has done," Djokovic said.

As Djokovic gears up for the Australian Open, where he aims to secure a Golden Slam, he acknowledged the privilege of having a wonderful friendship with Kohli. The tennis maestro is set to face Croatian Dino Prizmic in the opening round.

Meanwhile, Kohli is scheduled to make his return for the second T20I against Afghanistan, after missing the series opener for personal reasons. The revelation of this cross-sport camaraderie adds a unique dimension to the anticipation surrounding the Australian Open and Kohli's return to international cricket.
