As Gautam Gambhir prepares to step into the role of Team India’s head coach, succeeding Rahul Dravid, he received a deeply touching message from his predecessor.

Dravid, who concluded his tenure with a T20 World Cup victory in the West Indies, reached out to Gambhir with words of encouragement and personal insight.

In a video shared by the BCCI, Dravid conveyed his heartfelt wishes to Gambhir, urging him to maintain his composure and positivity in the high-pressure environment of coaching.

“In the most heated of times, exhale, take a step back, and even if it’s difficult for you, crack a smile. Whatever else happens, that will shock people. I wish you the very best, Gautam. I’m sure you will take the Indian team to even greater heights,” Dravid said.

The former Indian opener was visibly moved by Dravid’s message. Reflecting on the video, Gambhir expressed his emotional reaction, highlighting the significance of Dravid’s words.

“Look, I don't know how to react because this message means so much to me. And the reason is not just because it comes from the person I’m succeeding but from someone I’ve always looked up to. Rahul Bhai has done everything needed for Indian cricket. His selflessness and dedication have been remarkable,” Gambhir shared.

Gambhir acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, “There’s so much to learn from Rahul Bhai. It’s not just about me or individual success but about what Indian cricket represents. It’s a massive responsibility, and I hope to fulfill it with honesty and transparency, making both the nation and Rahul Bhai proud.”

Gambhir's tenure as head coach will commence with the first T20I against Sri Lanka on July 27, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Indian cricket.
