Veteran Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. Dinesh Karthik who hails from Tamil Nadu, shared the news of his retirement through an emotional post.

Dinesh Karthik had played the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and he played a vital role for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) helping them in reaching the playoffs with his commendable performance.

Following RCB's loss to Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator, Dinesh Karthik was honored by RCB players, including Virat Kohli.

DK bids farewell!

Dinesh Karthik shared an emotional video encapsulating his cricketing journey alongside his retirement announcement post.

"Having given it plenty of thought for sometime now, I have decided to move on from playing competitive cricket. I officially announce my retirement and put my playing days behind me as I square up for the new challenges that lie ahead,” Karthik announced in a social media post.

Dinesh Karthik made his debut in 2004, even before Dhoni, and went on to play almost 180 international matches across various formats. He bagged around 3000 international runs in all formats.

But throughout his career, Dinesh Karthik never had a stable position in the Indian team. He frequently found himself in and out of the squad.

Dhoni's presence as the primary wicketkeeper often hindered Karthik's chances in that role. Despite this, Karthik focused on improving his batting and made strong comebacks.

Dinesh Karthik revitalized his career through franchise cricket, emerging as an elite finisher in the latter stages. He tasted IPL success with Mumbai Indians in 2013. Despite this, his dream of playing for CSK his home franchise remained unfulfilled.

Good luck DK for your new innings, DK. You've made cricket proud and gave many memories for your well wishers.
