New recruit of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Rachin Ravindra graciously fulfilled a fan's request for an autograph on the team poster on January 1.

Ravindra, a rising star in international cricket, gained recognition for his sensational run in the ODI World Cup debut in India, where he amassed 578 runs at a staggering average of 64.22 in 10 matches. His stellar performance set a new record for the most runs scored in a World Cup debut, surpassing Jonny Bairstow's previous record of 532 runs in 2019.

Ravindra generated significant buzz as he entered the IPL 2024 mini-auction, building on the success of his dream ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. The young New Zealand cricketer, with a base price of INR 50 lakh, secured a contract with CSK for INR 1.80 crore during the auction in Dubai on December 19, outbidding Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Rachin gives autograph

In a viral video, Ravindra can be seen giving autograph on the Chennai Super Kings poster for a fan following his practice session in New Zealand.  Being humble like many CSK players, Ravindra attended to the fan's request by placing his helmet and gloves on the ground before signing the poster.

With no load of the price tag, CSK's investment in Ravindra appears promising, given his potential contributions in the present and future. While his somewhat mediocre T20 record and relative inexperience may pose challenges, his recent performances suggest that he could be a valuable asset to the team.

Ravindra showcased his prowess against some of the world's best bowlers, exhibiting composure and maturity in front of large crowd, attributes that could prove beneficial in mastering the IPL. In addition to his batting skills, the Kiwi cricketer also doubles as a proficient left-arm spinner. With 41 wickets in 53 T20s at an average of 26.92 and an economy rate of 7.45, Ravindra has proven his worth. Having played 18 T20Is for New Zealand, he contributed 145 runs and claimed 11 scalps.

While Ravindra faces stiff competition for his place in the CSK lineup, he appears to be a typical "MS Dhoni" signing, offering versatility across all three departments of the game. His all-round skill set positions him as a valuable asset for CSK's campaign in the upcoming IPL season.
