There was a buzz surrounding New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra ahead of the IPL auctions 2024. Teams were expected to go hard for the Kiwi all-rounder, and the bidding war was expected to go above the 10 crore mark.

CSK buys steal of the auction

However, Ravindra turned out to be the deal of the auction as the Chennai Super Kings stole him for just INR 1.80 crore. At a base price of 50 lakh, CSK were interested in him right from the word go, and they were joined by Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings.

The bidding war intensified, but CSK kept their calm and for just 1.80 crore they acquired the services of one of the best spin bowling all-rounders in the modern game.

Ravindra's stock rose after a stellar World Cup 2023. He slammed 578 runs in 10 matches, which also included 3 stunning centuries, opening the batting.

In the absence of Kane Williamson, Ravindra got the opportunity in the playing XI and he grabbed it with both hands as the southpaw racked up runs for the Kiwis, who managed to reach the semis.

So far, the highest bid player of the auction has been Rovman Powell, who was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 7.40 crore.
