Ahead of the dead-rubber third Test match between Australia and Pakistan in Sydney, talismanic Pakistani batter Babar Azam, who has been grappling with a form slump over the past few months, engaged in an intense net session at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). This practice session, captured in a viral video circulating on social media platforms, reflects Babar's commitment to rediscovering his form.

Babar had a tough year in 2023, as he failed to perform to his reputation, particularly in Test cricket, failing to surpass the 50-run mark across nine innings.

His struggles have persisted during the ongoing Test series in Australia. In the first Test, he managed scores of 21 and 14, followed by 1 and 41 in the second Test, with the latter being his highest innings in 2023.

As Pakistan aims to start the 2024 cricketing year with a victory against Australia in the final Test, Babar's return to form becomes crucial. Stepping down as Pakistan's all-format captain last year, Babar recognizes the significance of his contribution to the team's success.

Babar's recent battles against pacers, particularly falling twice to Australian skipper Pat Cummins in this series, underscore the need for him to refine his approach. Throughout seven Tests on Australian soil, Babar has accumulated 355 runs at an average of 25.35, including one century and a fifty. However, in the last Test tour of Australia in 2019, he exhibited resilience with scores of 97 in Adelaide and 104 in Brisbane.

Having failed to surpass the 20-run mark nine times in 14 innings Down Under, Babar will be eager to reverse this trend in the upcoming Sydney Test, starting on January 3. The final match of the three-Test series presents an opportunity for Pakistan to salvage pride, avoiding a whitewash and potentially securing a victory.

Pakistan has endured a 16-Test losing streak in Australia since 1995, making the upcoming Test in Sydney crucial for ending this unfavorable record, particularly since their last win on Australian soil occurred in Sydney. As usual, Babar's contribution will be important as Pakistan seeks redemption in the final Test match.
