It is a rarity to see Rohit Sharma bowl; however, the Indian captain made an expectation and chanced his arm against the Netherlands in the last group match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

With Indian management looking to weigh in all bowling options ahead of the crucial World Cup semi-final clash against New Zealand, Sharma deployed as many as eight bowlers against the Dutch side at M.Chinnaswamy in Bangalore last evening, including players like Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Surya Kumar Yadav.

While demands of Kohli bowling in the World Cup have been echoing in the stadium, it was chants from fans to see Sharma bowl that grabbed attention on social media.

In a viral clip, members of 'The Bharat Army' could be seen urging Sharma to bowl, with the crowd backing the Indian captain. The 36-year-old did oblige to the fans and bowled the 48th over, claiming the wicket of defiant Reja Nidamanuru to fold the Netherlands for 250 and help India claim their ninth victory in a row this tournament.

With Nidamanuru's wicket, Sharma also made history by becoming the first Indian captain in 20 years to pick a World Cup wicket.

Former skipper Sourav Ganguly achieved this feat in the 2003 World Cup against Zimbabwe, clinching three wickets, while 1983 World Cup-winning leader Kapil Dev was the first India to claim a stake in his astounding feat.
