Jasprit Bumrah is one of the marquee Indian players set to arrive late in South Africa for the all-format trip in December-January. The ace speedster, who has been given an extended rest since the ICC World Cup 2023 on home shores, is currently in Mumbai training for his next assignment.

Bumrah skipped the five-match T20I series between India and Australia and was relieved of duties for the limited-overs section of the tour in the rainbow nation. The 29-year-old all-conquering bowler will be next seen in action via the gruelling Test series against South Africa, starting with the Boxing Day Test in Centurion on December 26.

The great right-arm seamer is currently putting in the hard yards in practice in Mumbai along with a section of players not part of the T20Is and will be departing to South Africa ahead of the ODI leg. One of them, middle-order giant KL Rahul was seen confronting the bowler in his lethal avatar during a net session.

Bumrah was captured bowling at full tilt against the wicketkeeper-batter, who will be leading the Indian side in the three-match ODI series before making a comeback to the Test match outfit on Proteas shores. India's mighty quick send down fire against his experienced teammate, putting his technique and defence to a stern test.

Rahul will not have Bumrah's services at disposal for the ODI leg of the tour as captain but will be combining forces with him in the nation's quest to clinch a maiden Test series victory in South Africa.

The Test series will be extremely important for the Karnataka right-hand batter, who has earned a comeback on the basis of his rising wicketkeeping prowess without any recent first-class batting performances.

Dropped from the Test squad in March this year after a sustained blip, Rahul stands a chance to rejuvenate himself and cement a place in an under-transition middle-order for the Rohit Sharma-led side.
