A proud Indian, who stands for unity in the diversity ethos of the great land, Virat Kohli unfollowed Canadian-based singer Shubhneet Singh, i.e. Shubh, last year after the artist found himself in the midst of the 'Khalistan' controversy.

Kohli was following the singer with the stage name 'Shubh' for his voice and songs but removed him from his following list on Instagram ahead of the singer's concert organised in Mumbai back in September last year as part of the 'Cruise Control 4.0' event.

The Indian cricket icon unfollowed one of his favourite singers based on a controversial image which Shubh posted on his Instagram handle. The image contained a distorted map of India, aligning with the separatists' political views.

Notably, the singer was quite popular amongst senior Indian national cricketers and would've been a frequently played singing sensation inside the dressing room. However, as soon as he posted an anti-India image, Kohli decided to unfollow him on Instagram.

Kohli's unfollowing act was backed by other Indian cricketers Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, who were also previously following the Canadian singer for his Punjabi tunes and beats.

The former India skipper has always been fond of Punjabi music. Hailing from the Punjabis-dominant West Delhi region, Kohli has time and again expressed his delight for Punjabi songs and plays them extensively during his gym sessions and on travel days.

He used to enjoy some of Shubh's popular songs. However, as soon as Kohli learnt of the singer's anti-India post in support of the 'Khalistani' movement, he unfollowed him immediately from his Instagram account.

Kohli is currently gearing up for a T20I comeback via the three-match series against Afghanistan, starting January 11. The great batter, who last turned out in the shortest format in November 2022, is set to reassume his playing duties ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
