Shaheen Afridi is leaving no stone unturned ahead of his first assignment as Pakistan's T20I skipper in New Zealand. The cricketer was seen training not just with the ball but also as a lower-order bat during an extended net session in Auckland on Tuesday (January 9).

As Pakistan geared up for the opening game of the five-match T20I series across the Tasman Sea, Afridi was seen sharpening his overall skillset, including his understated power-hitting muscle.

The young cricketer struck a special 'no-look' six during the net session against one of the left-arm spinners available for the practice duties at Eden Park. Shaheen, who has grown in love with his batting over the past couple of years, was seen flexing his six-hitting qualities against the tweakers.

Shaheen's No-Look Six During Net Session

Taking on the left-arm spinner, Shaheen hit a big shot aimed towards the mid-wicket region against the ball coming into the left-hander's arc. As he went through with his stroke, the cricketer kept his head down towards the turf and executed a no-look maximum.

Shaheen would be hoping to contribute both skills towards Pakistan's fortunes in his first series at the helm of affairs. Lower-order hitting has been an improvement area with the rising speedster that has time and again showcased his worth down the order since making a comeback to competitive games via the 2023 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The 23-year-old has given the leadership mantle to the T20I side in a critical phase as Pakistan begin their long-drawn build-up towards the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June in the Caribbean and USA.

The five-T20I series in New Zealand starts in Auckland on January 12. Hamilton and Dunedin host the next two games on January 14 and 17, before the tour concludes in Christchurch via the fourth and fifth T20Is on January 19 and 21.
