On Tuesday, Kolkata Knight Riders had a phenomenal outing as they crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 to enter the IPL 2024 final.
Batting first, the Sunrisers posted a respectable 159-run total on the board before the Knight Riders made a mockery of the score, thanks to scintillating knocks from Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer.
Meanwhile, besides KKR's splendid all-round performance, an incident that grabbed the limelight was former Indian player Suresh Raina's cheeky dig at legendary Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi.
During the eighth over of KKR's innings, ex-opener Aakash Chopra asked his co-commentator Raina if he would take a U-turn on his retirement. However, Raina revealed that he had no such intentions as he isn't someone like Shahid Afridi.
Notably, Afridi is infamous for reversing retirement multiple times during his playing days. Thus, Raina's humorous response to Chopra's query caused laughter in the commentary box.
Talking about Raina, the swashbuckling southpaw played a pivotal role for the Chennai Super Kings, powering them to multiple titles at the peak of his prowess. However, he decided to hang up his boots after going unsold in the 2022 auction.
Coming to the IPL 2024, the tournament is at its business end and will witness the all-important eliminator clash between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru tonight at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
