Yuvraj Singh, one of the heroes of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup triumph, recently shared some of his memories from the tournament. Celebrating 16 years of team’s title glory, the cricketer said that he and several other senior members of the side desperately wanted to win the final against arch-rivals Pakistan in order to shrug off their 2003 demons from Johannesburg.

Singh admitted that the team did felt pressure heading into the title clash, however, they played it off on the big day by unleashing the same fearless approach they had employed throughout the competition.

A youthful Team India, under MS Dhoni, entered the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup back in 2007 with the least T20 experience among all member nations. With several senior members like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid opting themselves out of the squad, the ‘Men in Blue’ surprised one-and-all by upstaging some of the biggest T20 heavyweights of the time.

Yuvraj Singh played crucial roles in team’s much-needed wins over England and Australia in their race towards the finals, where they eventually faced arch-rivals Pakistan on September 24.

Singh, commemorating 16 years of India’s historic title triumph over Pakistan in a thrilling Johannesburg finale, claimed that several of his teammates desperately wanted to win the match in a bid to overcome their dreadful 2003 World Cup final memories from the same venue.

The cricketer also praised then newly-appointed skipper MS Dhoni for letting the troops play with a fearless approach, which ultimately yielded them a world title.

Yuvraj Singh himself bludgeoned a 30-ball 70 in the tournament semi-final to knock Australia out of the competition. The burly left-hander did so just a couple of days after unleashing his full fury against T20 veterans England in Durban.
