Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur is a “bits and pieces cricketer”, according to batting great Mark Waugh. The former Australian batsman made the scathing claim against Thakur during India’s high-scoring second ODI against Steve Smith’s troops in Indore.

Thakur, who bowled exceedingly well in the limited opportunities he got during the 2023 Asia Cup, returned with expensive and wicketless figures against Australia in Mohali. The speedster also failed to apply pressure on the visitors’ top-order in the second match of their series, even after they were reduced to 9-2 by Prasidh Krishna at one stage.

Mark Waugh slams Shardul Thakur during second ODI

Mark Waugh, tendering his services as a commentator in India’s ongoing ODI series against Australia, launched a tirade against Shardul Thakur after the speedster returned with expensive spells in Mohali and Indore.

Waugh tore into Thakur’s all-round abilities by describing him a “bits and pieces cricketer”, thus drawing a parallel to Sanjay Manjrekar’s commentary on another Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja back in 2019, albeit with a distinct perspective.

Earlier this month, Shardul Thakur was included in India’s 15-player squad for the upcoming 2023 World Cup at home.

The star all-rounder, having made his international debut in 2017, has so far played 10 Tests, 43 ODIs and 25 T20Is for his country.

In a seemingly short Test career, Thakur has already crafted some of India’s most memorable Test wins in England and Australia.
