Gujarat Titans Chief Operating Officer (COO) Colonel Arvinder Singh has made a startling revelation involving Mohammed Shami.

The Indian speedster was roped in by the Gujarat Titans franchise prior to IPL 2022, and recently became one of their retained cricketers for next year’s IPL 2024 season. Earlier this year, back during IPL 2023, Shami bagged the ‘Purple Cap’ award for his wicket-taking spree throughout the tournament. His bowling stocks rose further ahead of IPL 2024 auctions, considering he finished India’s World Cup 2023 campaign as the highest wicket-taker of the competition.

Gujarat Titans COO alleges franchises of unfair trade

Gujarat Titans COO Arvinder Singh praised Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami for his splendid run with the ball off late. He acknowledged the speedster’s ‘Purple Cap’ run in this year’s IPL 2023 season, as well as his wicket-taking blitz for Team India at the 2023 World Cup.

Underlying his importance in the Gujarat Titans camp, Singh also alleged other IPL franchises of luring the speedster away from them via foul play. During a recent interview with News18, he implied that there are some franchises who are directly approaching Shami for a possible trade, one which goes against BCCI’s procedures. He said:

“Every team has the right to take good players to make their team stronger. Mohammed Shami has done well for us, won the purple cap holder last season, he performed well in the World Cup. He is a very important part of our team. The wrong thing is when some franchises directly approach players. The BCCI has made a procedure for trading. There is an expression of interest that goes to BCCI and it is subsequently shared to the concerned franchise, who can then they take a call whether to go on with the trade or not.”

As of now, Mohammed Shami is undergoing medical treatment for his ankle injury. The 33-year-old recently visited Mumbai to consult with doctors and is currently expected to travel to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to attain full recovery.

Distancing himself from India’s T20I home series against Australia and the subsequent white-ball assignments in South Africa, Shami will soon be seen in action for his country in their upcoming two-match Test challenge against the Proteas.
