With the clock ticking down to the grand spectacle of World Cup 2023, the air is thick with excitement and anticipation.

Sehwag named his top four picks for World Cup 2023 semis

Set to be played from October 5 to November 19 in India, this edition of the World Cup has everyone, from fans to cricketing pundits, sharing their tournament predictions. The latest to join this predicting spree is none other than the former Indian opener, Virender Sehwag.

Drawing upon his experience and insights into the game, Sehwag shared his predictions for the semi-finalists of the marquee event in a recent conversation. Without a hint of hesitation, the swashbuckling batter has placed his chips on India, Pakistan, Australia, and England for the four semi-final spots.

Justifying his decision to pick Australia and England, Sehwag stated that the two teams are strong contenders due to their unique style of play, relying on unconventional shots rather than traditional ones.

Additionally, he highlighted that these two teams have the ability to perform well in sub-continent conditions which makes them stand out among overseas teams.

“If I have to pick four teams – Australia, England, India and Pakistan. These are the semi-finalists. Australia and England will surely be there because the kind of cricket they are playing – they don’t play conventional shots, only unconventional – these 2 teams are pretty good at it. Also, England and Australia are the two away teams who can play better cricket in the sub-continent,” said Sehwag.

The Indian veteran’s endorsement of his country came as no surprise given the team's track record and home advantage.

However, his inclusion of Pakistan shows how the Babar Azam-led side could prove a force to be reckoned with as they will be well acquainted with the conditions in India which are similar to their own country.
