Skipper Rohit Sharma displayed an exceptional batting performance against Afghanistan in India's second ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match on Wednesday in Delhi.

The 36-year-old shattered several Indian and world records during his 131-run knock as the hosts chased down 273 runs at Arun Jaitley Stadium with absolute ease.

Apart from Sharma, local boy Virat Kohli also starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 55 off 56 after the former's carnage and guiding India past the finish line. Sharma, who is receiving praise from all quarters, had Kohli's brother Vikas Kohli, and sister Bhawna Kohli Dhingra also laud the star opener for his outstanding outing.

Both Vikas and Bhawna took to the social media platform Instagram and praised the Indian captain with posts captioned, "Brilliant innings skip" and "Awesome knock", respectively.

In the post-match presentation, Sharma himself spoke about his innings, stating how he let his instincts take over, and not premeditate much.

"It's a special feeling to get a World Cup hundred. Really happy with that. Don't want to think too much (scoring seven hundreds in three World Cups), I don't want to lose my focus. You need to make such things count. You gotta make it big. Some of it (the shots he plays) is premeditated. I let my instincts take over at times, sometimes it really works well."

Sharma will next lead India against arch-rivals Pakistan in high-profile encounter on October 14 at Ahmedabad.
