'Did Not Know That Rohit...,' Jasprit Bumrah's Interesting Take On Hitman's Century

As India and Afghanistan faced off against each other at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday evening in Match 8 of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma hogged all the limelight.

Sharma made a mockery of Afghanistan's bowling attack, who were tasked with defending merely 272 on a placid track.

The India skipper wasted no time and started going hammer-and-tong, recording his seventh ODI hundred in just 63 balls (fastest for an Indian in WC), ensuring his side wins the match with a healthy net run rate.

Jasprit Bumrah, who came for the post-match presser, explained how net run-rate was never a discussion point during the mid-innings break. As quoted by India Today, the lanky pacer stated how everyone in the dressing room was surprised by Sharma's charge.

Here's what Bumrah said

"Not at all. We are not looking at it from the beginning (of the tournament. (Besides) we did not know that Rohit would give us such a headstart. I don't think we had any such conversation so early in the tournament. Really happy with the way the game went and we finished it off."

Apart from Sharma, Bumrah also spoke about his performance against Afghanistan, where the pacer claimed four wickets and looked menacing.

"Look, I'm not result-oriented. Just because I've taken four wickets that doesn't mean I'm very, very happy or I've done something extraordinary. I just go with my preparation. I go with the processes that I feel is right. I try to read the wicked and try to find the best answers."

Sharma and Co. are now placed second in the points table behind New Zealand and ahead of Pakistan, thanks to a superior net run-rate.

Team India will next play Pakistan on October 14 at Ahmedabad.
