Donning the iconic India jersey, Venkatesh Prasad was every batter’s worst nightmare, a pacer who never let a single moment go dull. After hanging up his boots from the game, the bowler returned to cricket, but in a different role.
Back in Karnataka, the state that shaped his destiny, Venkatesh Prasad made a stunning return to give back where it all began. On Sunday, Venkatesh Prasad was elected as the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association.
Venkatesh Prasad takes charge as KSCA’s new president
Whenever Venkatesh Prasad used to step into the field, Team India used to have an edge, depending on his heroics. After retirement, his absence was felt for years, but now he’s back to serve the sport once again. But on a surprising note, this time as an administrator.
In a high-voltage showdown for the KSCA presidency, Venkatesh Prasad stormed to victory with 749 votes, leaving KN Shanth Kumar behind at 558. Supported by his former teammates, Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, Prasad is set to embrace his new role.
Former Head of Cricket Education at the BCCI CoE, Sujith Somasundar, has been elected as the vice-president of the KSCA, winning by a 719-588 margin against D Vinod Sivappa. Competing against ES Jairam, former secretary Santosh Menon is back at his old role.
Adding more spark to the results, BK Ravi from the Brijesh Patel-backed panel secured the post of joint secretary. BN Madhukar will play the role of the Karnataka State Cricket Association treasurer.
Venkatesh Prasad hails it as a 'Victory for the Sport of Cricket'
After delivering the absolute best on the field, Venkatesh Prasad is set to lead the Karnataka cricket in the right direction. As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, the newly elected president called this win a collective triumph for every member determined to bring cricket back to the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium.
“First and foremost, this is a victory for the sport of cricket. Secondly, this is a victory for all the members who wanted a change, all the people who wanted international cricket to come back to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium,” he said.
Starting the new innings as KSCA’s newest president, Venkatesh Prasad’s journey will not be smooth. With major matches still away from M. Chinnaswamy stadium after the RCB celebration chaos, his biggest mission now is to bring top-flight cricket back to the iconic venue.
After the matches of the Women’s ODI World Cup shifted from the venue, reports are suggesting RCB might have to find a new home for the IPL 2026. Wasting no time, Prasad has reportedly directed his team to dig deep into the Justice John Michael D’Cunha commission findings to set things right after the stampede.
