In the never-ending debate over the No. 1 batsman in the world, opinions often oscillate between Indian stalwart, Virat Kohli and Pakistan captain, Babar Azam.

Former Sri Lankan pacer and current bowling coach of Colombo Strikers in the Lanka Premier League, Chaminda Vaas, recently picked his No. 1 batter in the world.
While discussing the selection of the Colombo Strikers' team in a conversation with Hindustan Times, Vaas opened up about why Babar Azam wasn't picked to lead the side.
"Babar wanted to play just as a batter, and we respected his decision. Niroshan Dickwella is going to be our captain,” said Vaas.
However, Vaas' admiration for Babar was evident from what he said afterwards as he named the Pakistan skipper as the best batter in the world currently.
The southpaw also reckoned how Babar's approach to the game could be an invaluable lesson for young and emerging players in the LPL.
"If you take Babar Azam, we all know that he's the number one batsman in the world (currently), and the way he performs and contributes to the team is amazing. All the youngsters can learn so much from him. I'm so excited to see him play in the Lanka Premier League," added the legendary pacer.
Furthermore, when asked about Kohli's potential to break Sachin Tendulkar's records, Vaas was both philosophical and optimistic. He opined that records are transient and expressed faith in Kohli's ability to create new milestones.
"Records are there to be broken, you know, you can't keep records all the time. Different eras, different players, but the way I see it, Kohli is still young and has a lot of time. Age is just a number, and the way he's performing, I'm sure he will do well for Indian cricket," stated Vaas.
