When Virat Kohli turns up early and starts putting in extra hours at the nets, it usually means business. With the Vijay Hazare Trophy around the corner, the former India captain is back in familiar territory, preparing to represent Delhi in domestic cricket once again.

Virat Kohli’s intense net session signals serious intent ahead of Vijay Hazare Trophy

Far from a low-key appearance, Virat Kohli’s return comes at a time when match sharpness matters and his intense net sessions have already hinted that he is treating this assignment as more than just a box-ticking exercise.

Ahead of the tournament, Kohli was spotted putting in serious work during practice sessions. Crisp drives, solid defence and plenty of intent. It looked like vintage Kohli preparing himself, not just for domestic cricket, but also with one eye on the upcoming international assignment.

With an ODI series against New Zealand coming up soon after, these domestic games could be the perfect tune-up.

Pant to lead, Kohli to feature early

Delhi will be led by Rishabh Pant, who has been named captain for the tournament. Reports suggest both Pant and Kohli are set to feature in Delhi’s first two matches, which already adds extra spice to the group stage.

Those opening games will be against Andhra and Gujarat, both scheduled at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Whether Kohli and Pant will be available for the later games remains to be seen, especially with India’s ODI commitments starting January 11 in Vadodara.

Delhi squad packed with depth

Delhi haven’t gone light on options. Ayush Badoni has been named vice-captain while Tejasvi Dahiya will serve as the second wicketkeeper behind Pant. Anuj Rawat stays on standby in case Pant is unavailable.

The batting group features Yash Dhull, Nitish Rana, Priyansh Arya, Arpit Rana, Sarthak Ranjan, Divij Mehra and Ayush Doseja.vOn the bowling front, the pace attack will be handled by Simarjeet Singh and Prince Yadav, while spin duties rest with Hrithik Shokeen, Harsh Tyagi and Vaibhav Kandpal.

Back where it all began

There is always something special when Kohli turns up for Delhi. It is not about headlines or milestones. It is about reconnecting with the roots.

As the Vijay Hazare Trophy gets going, all eyes will be on that familiar stance at the crease. Because when Virat Kohli starts grinding in the nets, history says something big usually follows.
