Hardik Pandya says sorry to cameraman [Source: BCCI]
Indian star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was in red-hot form during the recently concluded T20I series against South Africa. In the fifth and final match of the series, played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Hardik continued his purple patch.
Pandya smashed a brilliant 63 runs off just 25 balls, sending the ball flying to all parts of the ground with five massive sixes.
However, one of those powerful shots led to an unexpected and emotional moment. During the Indian innings, one of Hardik’s sixes went straight into the boundary area and struck a cameraman who was filming the match.
Hardik Pandya wins hearts after Cameraman injury incident
Thankfully, the cameraman was not seriously hurt. What made the moment special was what Hardik did next. As soon as the innings ended, Hardik walked straight to the boundary to check on the cameraman.
Pandya personally spoke to him, examined where the ball had hit, and even helped apply an ice pack that had been given as first aid. Hardik then hugged the cameraman as a gesture of apology.
Speaking later on BCCI TV, Hardik said he was very relieved that the injury was not severe. He explained that the ball could have caused much more damage if it had hit higher.
"God was with me as well, that it didn't go anywhere above that, it hit him in the place where it will be bruised tomorrow but at the same point of time, he was a very lucky man. I am very grateful that it didn't go higher," said Hardik.
“I got really worried inside because it was quite a clean hit. I just thought I would say sorry and check in. I have seen him around all the 10-11 years of my career. Just wanted to make sure that he was fine,” he added.
Meanwhile, talking about the match, India clearly dominated the game. Along with Hardik’s explosive half-century, Tilak Varma played a smooth knock of 73 runs, helping India post a massive total of 231 for 5. Varun Chakravarthy then took four wickets to restrict South Africa to 201 for 8, giving India a 30-run win and a 3–1 series victory.
