Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for Australia series (Source: AFP)
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not likely to feature in India A squad for the three-match unofficial ODI series against South Africa A. There were earlier reports that the two stalwarts would play A games to prepare for the ODI series against South Africa. However, after a good performance in the Australia series, the selectors are not keen to include the seniors in the A side.
The report from Cricbuzz has revealed that selectors have some plans in place for the three matches. The A matches are generally used to try out youngsters and enlarge the talent pool, and the selectors seem keen to continue that against South Africa A.
Interestingly, the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, mentioned in the press conference before the Australian series that the seniors would have to play domestic cricket. However, Rohit Sharma smashed a century and fifty in the Australia series while Kohli also scored a half-century, which has probably changed the outlook of selectors.
India A likely to get new captain for South Africa A series
India A last played a three-match ODI series against Australia A, which they won by a 2-1 margin. Shreyas Iyer was the captain of the side then, but he is not likely to be fit for the upcoming A series due to injury in Australia. Thus, India A are all set to get a new captain for the South Africa series.
All the three matches against South Africa A will be played in Rajkot. The first match is on November 13, while the remaining two encounters will be played on November 16 and 19.
Currently, South Africa A and India A are up against each other in a two-match red ball series. India A registered a thrilling win in the first match and the second match is all set to start on November 6.
