Veda Krishnamurthy Shares Emotional Letter On Instagram
Veda Krishnamurthy, an occasional leg-break bowler, shared the story that led her to cricket in an open letter on Instagram. With a picture of her wearing the jersey, Veda posted long paragraphs on her cricketing journey.
"A small-town girl with big dreams. That's how it all started in Kadur. I picked up a bat not knowing where it would take me, but I knew I loved the game. I never imagined it would take me this far... Today, with a full heart, I'm calling time on this chapter," Veda wrote in her post.
She then thanked her family, coaches, captains, and teams for lending her a helping hand in the long journey. She also thanked the BCCI and other cricket organisations for guiding her along the way.
"To my parents and siblings, especially my sister, thank you for being my first team and my constant strength. To my coaches, captains, and mentors — thank you for shaping me. To the BCCI, thank you for trusting me with the honour of representing India. To KSCA, Railways, and KIOC — thank you for giving me the space to grow," Veda added in her post.
Veda's Special Mention For Teammates
Speaking of her teammates, Veda shared special appreciation paragraphs for always encouraging and keeping her happy during her journey.
"To my teammates, you made every bit of this journey worth it. We've shared everything — wins, losses, and laughs that will stay with me forever. You were never just teammates. You were family... to the feeling of wearing that jersey. The anthem, the adrenaline, the pride — it lives in your bones forever. And 2017... what a year. To be part of a World Cup that changed how people saw women's cricket in India — I'll always be proud of that," Veda added.
Veda Speaks Of 'Second Innings'
Veda, however, hinted at a second innings in life without disclosing the reason for her retirement, as she signed off with pride.
"I truly believe this second innings will be just as meaningful. I played with fire in my heart and pride in every step. Always for the team. Always for India," Veda concluded.
Veda, part of the India Women's 2017 World Cup finalist team, had a spectacular career. Playing 48 ODIs, she scored 829 runs while averaging 25.90. She also has eight half-centuries and three wickets to her name in the format. In T20Is, Veda boasts 875 runs from 76 matches.
