Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is preparing to hang up his ODI boots after the Champions Trophy 2025. The 37-year-old has been a crucial part of Bangladesh cricket for over a decade, Shakib’s upcoming departure from One-Day Internationals (ODIs) is a huge moment for the cricket community. However, his immediate future in the sport remains uncertain, particularly regarding the upcoming AFG vs BAN ODI series, set to start on November 6.

In the latest development, Shakib’s participation in the three-match series against Afghanistan is in doubt. Initially, the star was expected to play his farewell Test against South Africa in Dhaka, however he didn’t return to Bangladesh due to “security concerns."

Recently, Shakib hinted that he might miss the series against Afghanistan, which added further suspense. According to a report, Shakib stated that it’s up to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to decide if he plays. He stated that he hasn't received any formal communication from them regarding this matter.

BCB Yet To Confirm Shakib's Involvement In AFG Series

On the other hand, the BCB’s take on Shakib’s involvement in the Afghanistan series is equally unclear. Despite Shakib’s comments, BCB hasn’t provided a definitive answer, and the selectors have yet to finalise any decision. This lack of communication has left the all-rounder uncertain about what is going to happen next in his cricket career.

"How can I tell whether I will be playing? The BCB should tell about it," Shakib told Cricbuzz.

Shakib al Hasan announced his retirement from Tests and T20Is earlier this year during India vs Bangladesh series, hoping to end his Test career with a final match in Bangladesh. However, due to ongoing security concerns and political unrest, he couldn't return to represent his country. Now, with his sights set on the Champions Trophy 2025, he would love to finish his international career on a high note.
