The political crisis in Bangladesh, exacerbated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent resignation, has cast significant uncertainty over the country's ability to host the ICC Women's T20 World Cup scheduled for October 2024. 

The ongoing unrest and violent protests have led to the imposition of an emergency by the interim government that has further complicated the situation.


BCB Requests Security Assurances From Army To Conduct Women's T20 World Cup

According to recent reports from Cricbuzz, amid violence and unrest in the country, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has sought security assurances from the country's army. 

The BCB has written to General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff, have has requested guarantees for the safety and smooth conduct of the tournament. 

“We are trying to host the tournament. To be honest there are not too many among us present in the country and on Thursday (August 8) we have sent a letter to the Army Chief regarding assurance about the security of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup as we have only two months in hand,” Mithu told Cricbuzz.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the BCB is holding on to the hope that the tournament can still take place as planned, with warm-up games set to begin on September 27

Will Bangladesh Host Women's T20 World Cup Amid Political Crisis? 

Earlier there were reports that due to the volatile situation, the Women's T20 World Cup may need to be relocated. India, Sri Lanka, and the UAE have been identified as potential backup venues should the situation in Bangladesh deteriorate further. 

The decision on whether the tournament will remain in Bangladesh or be moved to an alternative location is likely to depend on the developments in the coming weeks.
