With the Hundred Mens Competition at the business end of the league stage the Trent Rockets jumped to the 3rd position by winning a much needed game against the Welsh Fire by 4 runs. It was not looking good for the Rockets as their top four failed to make any contribution and were struggling at 40-4 in 41 balls. To make up for the bad start Colin Munro got the Rockets out of trouble by playing a brilliant knock of 66 of 35 deliveries to get them to a respectable total of 152 at the end of the innings.

Welsh Fire didn’t have the best of starts as they were also at a tough position with the score of 65-3 in 52 balls. Even though the fourth wicket partnership between Joe Clarke and Tom Abell resurrected their innings and gave them some hope the Trent Rockets Bowlers kept their nerve at the death and won the match by 4 runs.

Munro's Magic: Colin Munro Rescues Trent Rockets with Brilliant Knock

Colin Munro’s innings came at the most crucial time for the Trent Rockets. His 35 ball 66 included 4 fours and 4 sixes and helped the Rockets get to a defendable score. It turned out to be a great decision by lewis gregory to demote him down the order where he could play freely. Munro was at his absolute best where he took his chances against a really great Welsh Fire bowling attack.

Most of his runs have come at the mid wicket region where he played some destructive pull shots and slogs which cleared the boundary easily. He also put pressure on the bowlers by scoring some big runs down the ground where he scored 10 runs in the mid-on region and 9 runs in the mid off region. Munro even got some valuable runs on the off side as well as he played some beautiful cover drives through which he has scored 13 runs in cover region making it tougher for the bowlers to bowl to him.

He also took advantage of the bowlers straying in line and bowling on the pads which resulted in him getting 11 runs in the fine leg region. With him getting over 74% of his runs in front of the wicket indicates that it was not a display of great ball striking but also a calculated innings where he barely gave any chances and was finding the gaps easily.

Conclusion

Even though this was another great contest where both the teams were in and out of the game it still looked like that the Trent Rockets were the better team on the given day where they came back well with the bat and kept the Welsh Fire batsmen in check to get the needed result. The Welsh Fire did start well with the ball like they have done most of the tournament due to their impressive pace attack but were once again a victim of giving away crucial runs at the death which resulted in the Rockets getting 20-30 runs more than was expected.

The inconsistency of the Welsh Fire batsmen at the top is another major issue which has cost them the game. Even though Joe Clarke and Tom Abell got them into the game it was too late since the failure of the top order made it tougher for them to meet the required rate and chase down the target.
