India marked its 77th Independence Day on August 15 and the cricket world has joined the nation in enthusiastic celebration.

Dhoni's Ranchi farmhouse lights up in tricolour pride

Leading the way is the former Indian captain, MS Dhoni. At 42, even though his international playing days are behind him, Dhoni's love for the nation is evident more than ever.

Today, social media was abuzz with a clip that showcased the Indian flag being hoisted at Dhoni's farmhouse in Ranchi. This gesture not only drew immense appreciation from fans across the nation but also resonated well with the central government's 'HarGharTiranga' initiative which is a campaign aimed at instilling national pride with households across the country hoisting the national flag.

Dhoni's association with the nation goes beyond the cricket field. Holding the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Indian Territorial Army, he has often been seen wearing his love for the nation on his sleeve, quite literally. These affiliations reflect his deep-rooted respect for the armed forces and the nation at large.

His illustrious career spanning over a decade has been marked with significant achievements. Under his captaincy, India clinched two World Cup titles and a Champions Trophy.

For his exceptional contributions to Indian sports, Dhoni has been conferred with several accolades including the Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award, Padma Shri, and Padma Bhushan.

Notably, it was on this very day, August 15, 2020, that the cricketing maestro announced his retirement from the international arena. His announcement, though tinged with nostalgia, did not signify the end of his association with cricket.

Dhoni continues to lead the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, and under his seasoned leadership, the team clinched its fifth title earlier this year.

As the nation is celebrating its freedom and remembering its heroes, the cricketing fraternity is paying tribute in its unique way. And, in Ranchi, a flag waves high at the farmhouse of a man who has given his all for the sport and his nation.
