A power-packed display of batting-led by Lauren Winfield-Hill's blistering 74* (42) helped the Oval Invincibles Women kick off their campaign with a thumping 9-wicket win over the Northern Superchargers at the Oval on Thursday (August 11).
How the chase went by
Chasing 144, the Invincibles got off to a dream start as Winfield-Hill and Suzie Bates (46 off 34) sent the Superchargers on a leather hunt during the course of their 104-run stand (in 68 deliveries).
Winfield-Hill, on the other hand, lit up the Oval with breathtaking strokeplay. The wicketkeeper-batted hammered 11 fours and 1 six during her unbeaten knock.
Winfield-Hill was superb against the Superchargers
Birthday girl Capsey finished off the proceedings by smashing a six and then four consecutive boundaries off Linsey Smith.
Rodrigues, Wolvaardt spearheaded Superchargers' innings
Earlier, the Northern Superchargers rode on brilliant half-century from India's pocket-sized dynamo Jemimah Rodrigues (51 off 32) and a 39-ball 49 from Laura Wolvaardt to post 143/5.
Australian wicketkeeper-opener Alyssa Healy looked threatening during the course of her 7-ball stay as she hammered 2 fours and a couple of sixes to race her way to 15.
However, Rodrigues and Wolvaardt came to their rescue with a 66-run stand. Rodrigues was eventually dismissed for a well-made 51 but Wolvaardt ensured she stayed till the last ball to take her side to a competitive total.
