Ireland vs Afghanistan, 2nd T20I:  All-round performances help Ireland to continue their dominance

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Usman Ghani could not get them off to a good start.

Coming at number three, Hashmatullah Shahidi displayed composure to score 36 off 42, while the remaining lineup fell like a pack of cards. As a result, the visitors could only post a respectable total of 122 on the board.

Joshua Little, Mark Adair, Curtis Campher and Gareth Delany took two wickets apiece to topple the Afghanistan batting order.

Balbirnie and Tucker seal the game for Ireland

Chasing 123, the Irish team lost Paul Stirling in the third over. However, the likes of Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker, who got back to form in this series steered the team at a brisk rate.

The duo added 65 runs for the second wicket, before Balbirnie was sent back to the hut by Mujeeb Ur Rahman for a well-compiled 46-off 36 in the 11th over. Afterwards, Mohammad Nabi dismissed Tucker and Harry Tector in quick successions.

The all-rounder George Dockrell remained unbeaten on 25 off 19 to help the hosts to chase down the total, with an over to spare.

Both teams will meet on Friday (12 August) for the third T20I game of the series.
