The Eoin Morgan-led London Spirit edged out rival Oval Invincibles by three runs last evening in match two of The Hundred 2022.

Morgan, who recently retired from international cricket, scored a brisk 29-ball 47, helping his side to 171 after being asked to bat first by Invincibles skipper Sam Billings.

The former England white-ball captain expressed how the game almost felt like an international game, a feeling that even the Indian Premier League (IPL) could not provide.

"It felt as close to an international game as I have ever felt in the domestic arena, anywhere else apart from India,"

"India have the IPL and you have the tension, the pressure of being an overseas player and having to perform otherwise you are being dropped. But out here was as close to international cricket," - Morgan told Sky Sports

Kevin Pietersen echoes Morgan's views

Former England player Kevin Pietersen, who was in the commentary box, expressed similar views, saying that the 100-ball tournament provides ample chance for domestic players to experience international level cricket.

"It was as animated as I have got in a commentary booth in a long time. It is a unique atmosphere and youngsters were able to deliver on that stage. That's when you see the real makings of a player. These tournaments give domestic players opportunities.

"It is as good as you can get to the highest form of the game. It bridges the gap. If you perform on this stage, you can go and do it up top [in international cricket]."

London Spirit will next clash against Manchester Originals on August 8th at Lord's.
