Naseem Shah withdraws from competition following T20I call-up



The Welsh Fire will miss the services of Pakistan paceman Naseem Shah, who has withdrawn from The Hundred 2022 following national white-ball call-up.

​Shah has been selected in the Pakistan squad for their upcoming tour of the Netherlands and the Asia Cup 2022.

The 19-year-old is yet to make his white-ball debut but has played 13 Tests since November 2019, taking 33 wickets, which includes a hat-trick against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi.

​Pakistan will play a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series in Amsterdam between August 16 and 21.

​The Asia Cup 2022 being held in a 20-over format, will start on August 27 and finish on September 11 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).



The Hundred 2022: Replacement for Nassem?

​Welsh Fire, who are yet to name a replacement for Naseem, have the likes of David Payne, Jake Ball, and George Scrimshaw in their ranks.

​Fire' suffered a nine-wicket defeat in their opening encounter of The Hundred against defending champions Southern Brave. Their next game is against the Oval Invincibles in Cardiff on August 7.

​Prior The Hundred's commitment, Naseem played in the County Championship and T20 Blast for Gloucestershire, picking up one and five wickets, respectively.

​The right-arm bowler's stay with Gloucestershire was cut short after he was re-called into Pakistan's Test squad for the two-match series in Sri Lanka, where he grabbed seven wickets overall.

He has featured in 27 First-Class, 4 List-A, and 45 T20 games, collecting 130 wickets.
