One of the most destructive white-ball players in cricket, Glenn Maxwell was all set for a Test cricket comeback during Australia's tour of Sri Lanka last month.

Maxwell, who last played red-ball cricket in 2017, was in line to feature in the second Test at Galle, but ground conditions forced the Australian tour selection committee to decide otherwise.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Maxwell opened up about how shattered he felt about not playing against Sri Lanka, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

“I was shattered when I got told. It wasn’t that I thought they made the wrong call, I was just genuinely disappointed. I loved being a part of it [Test cricket], and I loved the thought of playing again.

"Even not thinking about Test cricket for a couple of years, I felt like I was ready again. I loved working with the coaches and coming up with new tactics to deal with difficult spin bowling."

Maxwell preparing for Australia's tour of India

Having made his Test debut against India in 2013, the 33-year-old has scored 339 runs in seven matches, including a hundred at Ranchi.

With Travis Head's poor outing against Sri Lanka, Maxwell is the clear front-runner for a spot in the playing XI during Australia's upcoming 4-Test tour of India next year.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player is currently preparing for the tour to India and he has already had conversations with the national selectors regarding the same.

Maxwell is currently playing in The Hundred for London Spirit.
