Scott Styris anticipates selectors' dilemma regarding KL Rahul's comeback

Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris has reckoned that KL Rahul's T20I return isn't going to be a cakewalk for him.

Despite being one of India's finest batters in the shortest format, Rahul has missed a majority of games owing to frequent injury setbacks.

Answering a question on his comeback, Styris opined that Rahul has allowed his competitors to cement their places by performing admirably in his absence.

The former Blackcaps all-rounder further stressed that drafting Rahul straight into the eleven won't be an easy decision for the selectors, especially after seeing how Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant have batted recently.

"So with the fact that he's out injured and he's away from the team, it means that other players are able to do what Suryakumar is doing, what Rishabh Pant is doing, getting in there, taking the chance, scoring runs and really posing the selectors some questions saying, do we actually need KL Rahul? Is he going to be in good form when he comes back?  A lot of question marks now present themselves just because he's been able to give other players that opportunity."

Notably, after undergoing a successful surgery for sports hernia, Rahul tested positive for COVID-19 just prior to the West Indies tour. He is yet to regain his full fitness and won't participate in the white-ball series against Zimbabwe.
