The Sri Lankan team batted first in the first ODI and scored 230 runs in their 50 overs. In the chase, India made a good start with Rohit Sharma scoring a quick fire half-century and laying the foundation for the chase. Despite the good start, India faltered in the middle-phase and the game went down to the wire. Shivam Dube was there till the end taking India close to the target. However, Sri Lanka managed to pick up the last two wickets when India were stationed at 230 and the game ended in a tie.

157* - Virat Kohli is second in the list of the highest score by a batter in a tied match. Andrew Strauss has the highest 158 vs India in ODI World Cup 2011. Kohli's knock of 157* came against West Indies, the last ODI before this involving India that ended in a tie.
