In the 18th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be up against five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on 5 April 2024.

A day before the much-awaited clash between the two most prominent teams of the cash-rich league the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) disconnected the power supply to the stadium, stating non-payment of power bills.

Power Cut Off Due To Non-Payment Of Electricity Bills

According to the reports released, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) was unable to pay the electricity bills and due to this, there was a power cut in the stadium. There were several notices given to the HCA regarding the payment of the electricity bills citing a hefty amount of Rs 1.6 crore.

The amount was not paid for a long period of seven years even after several notices and reminders.

“Electricity has been cut off at the Hyderabad Cricket Stadium ahead of the IPL Match. The HCA hasn’t paid a bill of 1.6 crore to DISCOM since 7 years. Earlier they approached the court asking them to consider their plea. First notice was served in February 2024. There wasn’t any response from HCA, despite continuous follow ups. The department has already disconnected power supply,” the report stated as quoted by the Newsmeter.

The primary notice was given to the Hyderabad Cricket Association in February 2024 but the association failed to abide by the notice and as a result, the state electricity department disconnected the power supply.

The HCA officials were informed that the electricity would be restored after the payment of 50% of the pending amount as the dues have been pending since 2015.

The net practices of the teams were held under lights being produced by the generators. Later on, in the night, the HCA officials stated that the TSSPDCL resumed the power supply to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Uppal.

A theft case has been filed against the owners and officials of the stadium for using electricity without clearing the bills.

There will be no restriction in the match schedule between SRH and CSK and both teams will look to grab those crucial two from this fixture.
