In a significant development, Mumbai's star all-rounder, Tanush Kotian, was added to the India squad for the remaining two Border-Gavaskar Tests. He has been roped in as R Ashwin's replacement, who announced retirement after the end of 3rd Test at the Gabba.
The 26-year-old, who has made a name for himself in India' domestic events such as Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup, is touted as R Ashwin's successor. However, one stark difference between the two spin all-rounders is that Ashwin also proved his mettle in white-ball cricket, while Kotian is yet to make a mark in the limited formats.
Talking about Kotian, he went unsold in IPL 2025 auction and this article will look at the three Indian stars from current BGT squad, who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega-auction held in Jeddah on November 24, 25.
1. Tanush Kotian
Kotian, who made his IPL debut in 2024 with Rajasthan Royals as a replacement, has played just a solitary match in his IPL career. Further, he registered for IPL 2025 mega-auction at a base price of 30 lakhs but found no bidders, not even from RR.
It is worth noting that even in the solitary game that he played for RR in IPL 2024, he didn't get a single over and scored 24 runs with the bat against Punjab Kings.
2.Sarfaraz Khan
India's budding Test cricketer, who once held the best first-class average after Don Bradman, also went unsold at IPL 2025 auction. Khan, who is yet to replicate his domestic success in Indian team, has been a part of most of the Test series in 2024 and has completely shifted his focus from white-ball cricket to Test matches.
Notably, Khan made his IPL debut in 2015 with Royal Challengers Bangalore, but failed to succed there. He shifted to Punjab Kings and then Delhi Capitals, before playing his final game in IPL 2023.
Even for IPL 2025 mega-auction, he registered at a base price of 75 lakhs, but found no interest, despite earning a national call-up.
3. Abhimanyu Easwaran
Similar to Tanush Kotian, Easwaran too proved his mettle in domestic cricket with blistering performance in several red-ball events. His brilliant run with the bat helped him earn India call-up as Rohit Sharma's back-up for the first Test.
Despite showing sole interest in Test cricket, Easwaran did register for IPL 2025 mega-auction, but found no bids. Notably, the right-hand batter had also registered at a base price of 30 lakhs, but went unsold.
