Former Bangladeshi cricketer Nafees Iqbal who also happens to be the elder brother of Tamim Iqbal has reportedly been removed from his duties as the national team’s operational manager upon Shakib Al Hasan’s request. The decision came in the wake of BCB’s decision to exclude Tamim Iqbal from the ODI World Cup squad.

Nafees had previously signed the team sheet in the third ODI between Bangladesh and New Zealand on Tuesday. However, his name was removed from the sheet while the game was in progress. His swift removal from the team role position has created a fair deal of buzz around the cricketing fraternity in Bangladesh.

It is believed that Nafees encountered a disagreement with the team management and subsequently headed home during the series decider. According to the latest sources, Shakib did not want Nafees to accompany him as a manager in India. The Bangladeshi skipper later informed the BCB team management of his decision who eventually complied with his request.

Previously, Nafees was with the national side during the 2022 T20 World Cup down under where rumours regarding his potential removal first began to surface. It remains to be seen who becomes his potential successor. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Team is gearing up in all readiness to start off their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on 7th October at the picturesque HPCA Stadium.
