'Don't care if I score Zero Hundreds': Rohit Sharma Reveals True Ambition Ahead Of World Cup 2023

Rohit Sharma was in the form of his life during the 2019 World Cup edition where he put on a enthralling show with the bat. The flamboyant top-order batter blasted 5 centuries against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, out of which 4 of them came in a winning cause.

With the form that he was in, Rohit even went on to surpass Sangakkara’s record of 4 tons from the 2015 World Cup edition.

With the ODI World Cup looming, many cricketing experts see India as the obvious favourites. The 36-year-old will have a major role to play in driving team India to the path of glory. Furthermore, the expectations of him producing a similar type of performance have also gone up in all likelihood.

Here's what Rohit said:

During an interaction with sports journalist Vimal Kumar, Rohit was asked whether he would be able to emulate the 2019 World Cup success in the upcoming edition.

Rohit delivered a very blunt reminder of team India’s heartbreaking semi-final exit against New Zealand despite Rohit’s five centuries. Instead, the Indian skipper emphasized on winning the trophy rather than worrying about his personal milestone.

" Yes I scored 5 centuries last time but we also lost the World Cup. So everything should not fall in place like in the 2019 World Cup. I don't care if I score one or two hundreds or not a single at all, I want to win the World Cup. It doesn't matter who scored how many hundreds, World Cup trophy matter. If you can't win that, it will be a disappointment."

While the Men in Blue aim to lift the World Cup trophy for the second time on home soil, all eyes will be on Rohit Sharma as he will lead them for the first time in an ODI World Cup. Previously, Rohit also captained his side in the World Cup but that was during the 2022 T20 World Cup edition in Australia where the Men in Blue suffered a semi-final exit.
