The highly anticipated 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, is tentatively scheduled from February 7 to March 8. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the location of the tournament’s final will be determined by geopolitical considerations, with a choice between Ahmedabad’s colossal Narendra Modi Stadium and Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.

The report states the final decision is contingent on whether Pakistan reaches the latter stages, due to the current strained political relations that prevent the team from playing in India.

Full Schedule And Venues Yet To Be Finalized

The tournament, featuring 20 teams, will be staged across at least five Indian venues and two in Sri Lanka. While the ICC is yet to finalize the full schedule, the window has been identified and communicated to the participating nations, as per the report from ESPNcricinfo.

The competition will mirror the structure of the 2024 edition, with 20 teams initially split into four groups of five. The top two from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage, which will itself be divided into two groups of four. The top two teams from each Super Eight group will then progress to the semi-finals, culminating in the final. The entire event will consist of 55 matches.

Fifteen teams have already secured their qualifications, along with first-time qualifiers Italy. The remaining five spots will be filled by two teams from the Africa qualifier and three from the Asia and East Asia Pacific qualifier.

A Cramped Calendar for India

The World Cup is part of a packed early-2026 schedule for Indian cricket. The Women's Premier League (WPL) is slated for a window between early January and early February, followed immediately by the global T20 event.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is then tentatively planned for March 15 to May 31, ensuring a nearly uninterrupted five months of high-profile cricket. Meanwhile, India will also host New Zealand for a limited-overs series from January 11 to 31.
