In a latest development, 2011 World Cup-winning coach and former South African opener Gary Kirsten and former Australian all-rounder Dan Christian will join the Netherlands coaching staff for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

The announcement was made by the KNCB High Performance Manager Roland Lefebvre via an official statement.

Kirsten led India to World Cup glory in 2011 and South Africa to the No.1 Test ranking in 2012 under his coaching. He was also a part of the coaching set-up of the Gujarat Titans', which won the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The Netherlands player trained at the Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy before their departure to Australia.

Here's what KNCB said in their official statement:

"We are very excited to welcome both Gary Kirsten and Dan Christian to our coaching staff for the T20 WC. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table which will be of great help in the lead-up to and during the World Cup."

This will not be the first time that Gary Kirsten will work with the Netherlands' men's team

The former Proteas opener worked with them during the Super League series in Ireland earlier this year, and he is quite excited to be joining the set-up again after having spent some time with the players in his academy in Cape Town recently.

"I really enjoyed working with the Dutch Team in Cape Town and I look forward to joining them as a consultant in the T20 WC. I was impressed with the level of skill and professionalism during the camp. They will be ready and determined to make an big impact at the T20 WC."

Dan Christian, meanwhile, started his stint with the Netherlands with a training session in Adelaide a couple of weeks.

Netherlands are grouped alongside Sri Lanka, UAE and Namibia in Group A of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 Qualifiers.
