The Indian team will go up against the South Africans in a series-deciding third ODI on October 11. The match marks the final fixture for both sides ahead of this month’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

South Africa, under Temba Bavuma, won the first ODI to take an early lead in the series. The visitors held off a charging Sanju Samson in the death overs to sneak a nine-run win in a 40-overs contest.

The Indians returned the favour in the next game and brought the three-match rubber to levelling terms. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan acted as agents of a spectacular run-chase for the ‘Men in Blue’, as the visitors hunted down the Proteas’ 278-run total with ease.

Earlier in the tour, a full-strength Indian team under regular skipper Rohit Sharma won the three-match T20I series with a 2-1 margin.

• Shreyas Iyer smacked an unbeaten 113 to guide India to an emphatic win in the second ODI. The cricketer has been in prolific run with the bat this year, having scored heavily in West Indies back in August as well.
• Sanju Samson nearly took India to a win in the first match of the series, by cracking his career-best 86* off just 63 balls. He also scored a handy 30 in the next game, and formed an unbeaten stand with Iyer in the end.
• David Miller has piled up 280 runs in his last 10 ODI appearances, all while maintaining a healthy average of 70. He even clubbed a ton in one of the T20Is of this tour, and another 75* in the first ODI to take South Africa to victory.
