T20 BLAST 2022 | LANCS vs HAM | Hampshire snatches victory from Lancashire's jaws in a dramatic Finale

Chaos, Chaos and Absolute Chaos. This is how you can describe the final ball of the T20 Blast that had to be bowled twice. Hampshire barely managed to get past Lancashire by a meagre margin of 1 run to clinch their third T20 Blast title.

Last Ball Drama ensured game goes down to the wire

On the last ball of the 2022 T20 Blast, Lancashire required 5 off the final delivery with two wickets in hand to seal their second T20 title.

Nathan Ellis knocks over Richard Gleeson with an outstanding yorker; Hampshire’s players are all over the ground, celebrating their victory, fireworks all around, and all of a sudden, the umpire calls it a no-ball! Grimmishness and annoyance on the faces of Hamps’ players visible who were on the moon.

In what could be termed as one of the closest finals in the history of the Blast, Ellis came to bowl again at Gleeson, this time with just 3 required for victory.

Gleeson again missed it, with the ball reaching the keeper, who safely collects it and reaches up to the stumps allowing just a single of the bye that ensured Hampshire’s victory by one run. But, this time, they finally celebrated.

McDermott’s fiery innings give Hampshire hope

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Hampshire’s start was hampered by regular wickets, thanks to an outstanding spell of bowling from Matt Parkinson (4/26).

Some quality hitting from Australian import McDermott ensured Hampshire stayed in the game; he launched an early attack hitting 4 fours and as many sixes scoring 62 (36) before being cleaned up by Parkinson.

Hampshire’s bowlers pull the game back

Just when the game was utterly looking in Lancashire’s favour, Hampshire’s bowling attack of Dawson, Fuller and Ellis stood against the Red Roses, whose innings started to fall apart during the middle overs.

Lancashire were once cruising with 101/3 on the board after 12 overs, but the change of pace deliveries and some excellent line-and-length during the slog overs from the Hawks restrained the lightning to 151, one short of their target.
