Mumbai Indians' (MI) famous leadership shuffle ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League got the cricket world buzzing on Friday (December 15) as the five-time champions presumably sacked their mighty successful captain Rohit Sharma and announced comeback allrounder Hardik Pandya as his replacement.

While the franchise deemed it a point of "legacy building" and being "future ready" in terms of the imminent change over from Rohit, who is approaching his sunset aged 36, rumours on the outside persist MI have forced their five-time winning skipper out of his post to make Pandya the new captain.

Fuelling those conjectures is the silence of Rohit, who offered no statement and no message of gratitude to the franchise and its fans. Now a cryptic post sent on Twitter by MI's experienced middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav fuelled the speculations as he further turned the social media into a frenzy.

Suryakumar Yadav's Cryptic Post On MI

The post contained an emoji of a heartbreak, which left the fans curious as to what exactly MI's aggressive match-winner is alluding to. Some took it as a mark of sadness on Rohit's departure from the helm while a section of fans treated it as an expression of Suryakumar's disagreement with the leadership changeover.

Some even went to the extent of suggesting the player perhaps felt personally aggrieved he wasn't considered for MI's captaincy despite recent ascent into India's stand-in T20I captain via series against Australia and South Africa.

Either way, Suryakumar played his part in keeping Twitter buzzing with speculations and rumours about the ongoing shuffle within the MI set-up before the mini-auction for the IPL 2024 to be held in Dubai on December 19.

MI had only recently brought Pandya back into their squad after a famous one-way all-cash trade with Gujarat Titans (GT) worth INR 15 crores plus an undisclosed transfer fee. The moment the deal materialised, fans wondered if it was a sign of a leadership changeover on the cards. As it panned out, Pandya's return indeed paved the way for his captaincy appointment for MI after two successful years as a leader for the Titans.
