On Friday, Mumbai Indians took the boldest decision in their history, replacing Hardik Pandya as their skipper going forward. This move put an end to the captaincy stint of Rohit Sharma, who led them to five IPL titles between 2013 and 2023. 

Meanwhile, veteran batter KL Rahul has paid tribute to Rohit, explaining how inspiring he has been as a leader in his career. 

During a conversation with MensXP, Rahul, who will lead India in the upcoming South Africa ODIs, admitted to admiring Rohit's captaincy skills. He also revealed how the veteran cricketer does his homework as a captain before stepping onto the field. 

Rahul also hailed his former opening partner for the environment he creates in the dressing room as a captain.

"I admire Rohit Sharma a lot, he knows all the strength & weakness of the opposition - does all the homework, he goes to each & every player, talks about what they need, very sharp on the field".

In Rohit's absence, Rahul will lead the Indian team in the three-match ODI series against the Proteas starting tomorrow. Thereafter, they will be seen in whites when the visitors take on the home team in a two-game Test series commencing on December 26.
