In the eagerly awaited T20I series against South Africa, Suryakumar Yadav is not just leading Team India but is on the brink of making history. The top-ranked T20 batter in the world, Surya aims to equal Virat Kohli's record and become the second-fastest to reach 2000 runs in T20 internationals. Currently standing at 1985 runs in 55 innings, Yadav needs just 15 runs to equal Kohli's record achieved in 56 matches.

What sets the 33-year-old batsman apart is his batting position; the majority of his T20I runs (59%) have come in the middle overs with an impressive strike rate of 165. His exceptional performance against South Africa includes three fifties in four innings at a striking rate of 185. Additionally, facing the Proteas' pacers, Yadav boasts a remarkable strike rate of 203, the second-best against any pace attack with a minimum of three innings.

As the new captain, Yadav is keen on maintaining the fearless approach that led Team India to a convincing 4-1 series victory against Australia. Breaking the 2000-run barrier is not only a personal milestone but a testament to his exceptional batting prowess, especially in the middle order. Currently, the record for the fastest 2000 runs is held jointly by Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, achieved in 52 innings each.
