Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has said he will be available for the upcoming Duleep Trophy. This tournament marks the start of India’s domestic cricket season. The Duleep Trophy will begin on August 28, and the teams for the different zones will be selected on Friday afternoon in Mumbai.

Both Shreyas Iyer and Sarfaraz Khan, along with Shivam Dube, have said they want to start the domestic season by playing in the Duleep Trophy. Notably, this year, the tournament is returning to its usual zonal format.

Shreyas Iyer recently led the Punjab Kings to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) final in ten years. After that, he went on a vacation in Europe. He shared some pictures from Spain after finishing the Mumbai T20 league, where his team lost in the final again.

Now, he is focused on preparing for a long domestic season. So, he wants to begin well by performing in the Duleep Trophy.

Iyer, Sarfaraz And Dube Ready To Take Field

Iyer and other Mumbai players have confirmed they will play in the Duleep Trophy. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan has also shown eagerness to play. Sarfaraz was part of India’s home season and even traveled to Australia but didn’t get a chance to play. He was dropped from the Test team in England, so he will be looking to grab opportunities in the Duleep Trophy.

A source from the Mumbai Cricket Association told the Indian Express

“Iyer has informed us that he is available to play in the Duleep Trophy. Other players like Sarfaraz, Shivam Dubey and Tushar Deshpande have confirmed their availability."

The 30-year-old batter has played 14 Test matches for India and scored one century along with five fifties. However, Iyer hasn’t played international Test cricket since February 2024 against England. Still, he was an important part of the Indian team that won the Champions Trophy in Dubai earlier this year.

Notably, the West Zone team, which he will play for, will include players from Mumbai, Baroda, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Maharashtra. The 2025-26 domestic cricket season will start with the Duleep Trophy on August 28 and end with the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy on April 3, 2026.
