Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the star Afghanistan opener and who is part of KKR setup in IPL 2024 has left the Shreyas Iyer-led squad ahead of the game against MI to be with his ailing mother in Kabul. He is expected to join back the KKR camp in the next week, and it is not a big worry for Kolkata Knight Riders as Gurbaz has not played a single game in this season so far.

KKR have preferred Phil Salt so far who has done brilliantly at the top of the order with 392 runs in 9 innings. He has smacked his runs at a strike-rate of 180.65 and the only way Gurbaz can get into XI, is by replacing Salt which is not a possibility till the conclusion of group stage.

However, the English batter will leave the KKR camp before the playoffs for the preparation of T20 World Cup, and that is where Gurbaz would have to step up.

So, all cricketing fans and especially KKR fans would be hoping that the Afghan wicketkeeper's mother gets well soon and he joins the 'Men In Purple and Gold' as early as possible.

Kolkata Knight Riders have played nine games so far and have won six games and though they are in a comfortable position in the playoff race currently, they would be looking to notch some more wins and seal the top-2 position on the points table.
