Matheesha Pathirana was recently awarded the esteemed Behindwoods Gold Icon Awards 2024 for the Most Popular Icon in the "sports" category.

The 21-year-old young cricketer recognition at the Behindwoods Gold Icon Awards 2024 highlighted his exceptional impact despite a limited appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His distinctive bowling style and an impressive economy rate of 7.68 demonstrate his skill and effectiveness, even in a season dominated by high-scoring matches and aggressive batting.

Despite playing only six matches with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2024 edition due to a hamstring injury, the youngster remained the standout sensation of the season regarding the bowlers. 

This award is one of India's most prestigious awards ceremonies, celebrating excellence across various fields including cinema, sports, and the arts. 

Matheesha Pathirana Awarded With Gold Icon Awards 2024 

Just after one month, Pathirana's final appearance in the 17th edition of the IPL, he embarked on his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with Sri Lanka. 

Although he was not in his best form he did not claim as many wickets as anticipated, he maintained an economy of 5.10, consistently delivering his utmost effort in each match.

Sri Lanka's  will next play with England for a three-match Test series scheduled for the August-September period.
