Even after a thrilling fight, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka both started their WTC 2025-27 journey with a tie, and both sides grabbed four points each. With 33.33 percent each, Sri Lanka is standing in the first position of the points table, and Bangladesh is standing in the second position.
Starting the new WTC 2025-27 cycle, Bangladesh gave a dreamy start. While batting first in the match, Bangladesh had a shaky start, and the hosts dominated early. But Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim’s explosive partnership turned the tide.
After Shanto was dismissed after scoring 148, Rahim played a brilliant knock of 163 runs in 350 deliveries. Adding more pressure on the opponent, Litton Das played another crucial knock of 90 runs in 123 balls. Riding on these stellar knocks, Bangladesh piled up a commanding total of 495 runs.
In return, Sri Lanka gave an impressive start to their innings. While opening the innings, Pathum Nissanka played an exceptional knock of 187 runs in 256 balls. Along with that, Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis’ crucial knocks helped the hosts to put on a total of 485 runs.
With a 10-run lead, Bangladesh entered the second innings, and Shanto crafted another brilliant ton. With that, he became only the 18th Test skipper to score centuries in both innings. Along with Shadman Islam’s 76-run innings, the Tigers declared their innings at 285/6.
Sri Lanka’s top order crumbled under pressure, losing 4 wickets for just 48 runs. Struggling at 72/4, their fightback fell short as the match ended in a dramatic tie.
