Ahead of the all-important Asia Cup 2023, Sri Lanka could find themselves in trouble with reports of pacer Dushmantha Chameera being ruled out of the six-nation tournament coming in.

Chameera also missed the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 last year owning to an injury. As per reports, sources within the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have indicated that the 31-year-old fast bowler will miss the entirety of the marquee event after sustaining a shoulder injury during the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023.

Here's what Source said

"He sustained a shoulder injury and has been advised to rest. This shoulder injury (ligament tear) he suffered in one of the matches in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League (LPL). Before the LPL, he had recovered from his ankle injury. We want him to be fit for the World Cup and therefore has been dropped from the Asia Cup squad. If he is able to move his hands freely, will be considered for the World Cup."

Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga's participation also remains doubtful, with his fitness being a massive question mark after LPL 2023.

Hasaranga, who won the 'Player of the Tournament' for his stellar bowling and batting in LPL 2023 for champions B-Love Kandy, is struggling with a hamstring injury.

SLC are awaiting fitness clearance for the 26-year-old following which the Sri Lankan Sports Ministry will approve the squad for Asia Cup 2023, which will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the selectors after talks with coaching staff and white-ball captain Dasun Shanaka have already listed down 15 main, and five standby players for the competition, that begins from August 30.
